The objective
Before expanding self-service in its coffee shops, the retailer wanted to estimate effects on visits, specialty orders, satisfaction, and chain perceptions.
The research design
Four virtual self-serve coffee-bar setups were tested in an online monadic study. Respondents chose beverages and add-ons, then evaluated the retailer.
The outcome
One setup performed best on likely visits and overall perceptions. Simulated orders showed no reduction in high-margin barista-made coffee.
